| Q2: A little on typical International student life at UHCL: |
| A:
Living: Typically, international students live off campus in one of the apartment complexes mentioned in this website.
Four/ five or six students share an apartment. This way we save on rent, and also are living with friends.
As most of us live in the same apartment complex, it's a very healthy
friendly atmosphere. Cooking: We have cooking turns that allow us to cook just once a week, and allow us to have home cooked, different types of cooking everyday. It is expensive to eat out everyday, and also not healthy to eat fast food a lot. Studying: During semesters, labs are open 24 hours, and we spend most of our time studying/ doing assignments/ or our on-campus jobs. We do not have fixed timings, and mostly we return home from our labs as late as 3 am or later. You will always find desis in the labs! Group studying is common. Activities: The main recreation for us is our on-campus activities, mainly ISA events, festivals, and get-togethers. There is usually an ISA event every month, and we all get together in good spirits for them. These are the main occasions we look forward to! UHCL ISA Culture: We all tend to live as friends, and celebrate each others birthdays, and are generally a close-knit community. We help each other out, and are there for one another through all times. Even when you fall sick, your ISA community is there to look after you! |
